Words Can Crush the World

“Women’s cycling is getting stronger and attracting more sponsors every year, but think how competitive the ladies could be if they could be training full time instead of pulling shifts down at their local bike shop in order to pay their rent. It’s said that an estimated 50 per cent of female riders still don’t receive salaries from their teams.

Wouldn’t it be nice if McQuaid could say the following about ALL professional cyclists:

“It is very pleasing to see that the men`s professional cycling is prospering in these difficult times. Most of the cyclists within the professional peloton can live very well, or at least comfortably, on their salaries thanks to the support of sponsors who invest in this sport. These sponsors are attracted by the extremely good visibility cycling provides them throughout the year.” ”

Teenagers read millions of books every year. They read for entertainment and for education. They read because of school assignments and pop culture fads.

And there are millions of teens who read because they are sad and lonely and enraged. They read because they live in an often-terrible world. They read because they believe despite the callow protestations of certain adults that books-especially the dark and dangerous ones-will save them.
